Why Pilates?

Pilates works the body as a whole. Pilates does not focus on working or developing one part of the body and neglecting others. While there is a focus all movements originating from your Powerhouse or Core, the body is trained as an integrated whole. Every single muscle is activated, strengthened and lengthened during your Pilates workout.

Pilates is very low impact. With a focus on lengthening and strengthening your muscles while creating space in the joints, Pilates can actually help to reverse some of the impact other movements forms have on the body. By activating and strengthening your deep core and other stabilizing muscles, spinal stability and joint strength are improved. You will often walk away from a Pilates session feeling taller and more mobile than before

Pilates improves posture Good posture is a reflection of muscular balance and alignment. When your body is in this balanced state it moves freely with ease. A regular Pilates practice will encourage the balance your body needs to move harmoniously without restriction.

Pilates is for every Body. Despite the common image of a dancer, certain demographic or only the bodies of the rich and famous being suitable, Pilates is actually for ‘Every Body”. Let me say that again slightly different, every ‘Body’ can do Pilates. Joseph Pilates himself was a boxer with only one functioning eye. He designed many of his exercises and pieces of apparatus specifically for the needs of people who were not athletes or dancers.

Pilates exercises and sequences are easily adapted to suite the needs of each and every individual. Joseph Pilates left us with a library of over 500 exercises and many different pieces of Pilates equipment. Each exercise can be adapted to suit the needs of the individual without loosing its effectiveness. Pilates promotes physical harmony and balance for people of all ages and physical conditions while simultaneously providing a challenging and energizing workout. Regular practice improves breathing and outlook on life.

Pilates positively impacts other forms of movement. Whether you are an elite athlete seeking to improve performance or just want to walk around the park with less discomfort, Pilates can help. The strength and functionality in your muscles and joints you gain from a regular Pilates practice can improve all other areas of physical activity and movement. Pilates stretched, strengthen and aligns your body all at the same time. In doing this it complements every other fitness modality because your body is more prepared to move better in every way.
