Why Low Impact?

After years of teaching and doing high impact high intensity workouts, constantly seeking more, burn, more sweat, more calorie burn etc. things suddenly came to a halt for Alexa. She remembers the exact moment. She was teaching star jump during an in an Insanity class and upon landing something gave in both knees. It was at that moment that Alexa knew she would not be able to stay active if she did not change what she was doing.

To be fair the signs had been there. Her body had slowly been telling her that what she was doing was not working. She was in a constant state of recovery and inflammation was her normal. Every joint hurt and she thought low back pain was normal. She constantly felt tired and at the same time could never get a good nights sleep.

Luckily she had already started an (irregular)Yoga and meditation practice. After that insane knee killing class, she decided to take her Yoga practice more seriously and also look into other forms of exercise and movement that would challenge her physically without wearing her down. Her journey of discovery eventually led her to complete her to complete a 200hr Yoga teacher training, become Barre certified and finally led her to discovering Pilates and becoming a certified Pilates teacher.

Contrary to what she had previously believed, that harder and more intense was better, she found that she was actually getting better results from her low impact workouts. The joint pain she was experiencing pain went away once she started practicing Pilates. She felt internally stronger. Because the focus was not just on intensity but on activating and connecting to as much muscle as possible she even found that her body shape started changing. Her posture became better as she stood more upright, her knock knees straightened up over all she had more energy. She not only felt better she also looked better.

Working with clients Alexa also found that she had the most ability to actually help people achieve their goals through low impact formats like Pilates.

If you have been struggling to achieve your goals through traditional high impact formats of fitness or experience chronic pain definitly give the low impact life a chance. You might be surprised by your results.
